Reddit user Rowan_startover recently posted a clip of their Valheim endeavors from a year ago in which they are sailing across the vast ocean, which is the home to one of the game’s many powerful bosses. They and another player have full action bars, and it’s suggested that they have inventories with more items that aren’t shown during their video in which the two players try to chart the end of Valheim without falling. To their surprise, the duo is unable to avoid sailing off the edge of the Valheim map, and according to Rowan_startover, the two have yet to return to the survival game.

Rowan_startover’s clip begins with the two Valheim players nearing the edge of the Valheim sandbox in a part of the ocean that gets particularly choppy with big waves. As the duo sees the big drop-off that is the end of the map, their boat takes a sharp turn to the side to try and prevent them from losing their ship and items. However, the powerful current sweeps the Viking ship into the dark oblivion which kills both players. As Valheim informs both players that they have died, the dark, gritty side of the landmass is exposed under the water, which is no longer visible at this point, giving a glimpse at what’s underneath everything.

Players that die so far from camp in Valheim often struggle to recover their loot as there’s usually a great distance between the bed they respawn in and where they died. This is made even more difficult when Valheim fans die in the ocean, but it’s almost impossible for Rowan_startover and their partner to recover their loot as it has been sent off the entire landmass and can’t be accessed easily without dying. One way that Valheim players like Rowan_startover can undo their mistakes is by reverting to an older save by doing some changes to the game’s program files which has been illustrated by other players.

Since Rowan_startover’s post gained traction, many players have noted that Valheim allows for console commands and God mode, which can also make acquiring the items they lost that much easier. One Valheim player that has utilized God mode to explore this area of the map further has noted that it’s a deep fall from the ocean into Ashlands, which then continues infinitely beyond that point. Although there are some solutions to the problem that Rowan_startover states caused them to quit Valheim about a year ago, it’s currently unclear if the players have returned to try any of the aforementioned tips.

Valheim is available now for PC.
