Lydia is a companion NPC that goes by the title Nord Housecarl and acts as a bodyguard for the main player. Lydia is obtained after the Dragon Rising quest, although she can die like any other NPC if she does not heal herself. There are also a few other options on how she can be used, such as recruitment into the Blades, an agency sworn to the Dragonborn, and even a marriage that aids the player with meals that generate health and stamina. As useful as she is, Lydia is also infamous for disappearing, as well as an assortment of other things. Players will usually have to stop every so often so that Lydia can catch up.

Reddit user NeverGoFullKaren posted this hilarious video showcasing what happens when Lydia disappears. The video reveals their avatar on top of a bridge-like structure with Lydia stuck on a patch of rocks below. Lydia is seen running in place, as the NPC character has no way of getting over the rocks, nor does she have the AI programming to go around this obstruction in her path. This appears to be just the video that the Skyrim community needs to add more fuel to the Lydia fire as this continues the trend regarding the long list of puzzling Lydia predicaments that the character finds herself in.

The Skyrim community has shown off fan art and clips of other strange in-game events that happen in Skyrim regarding Lydia, such as possession, her bad aim, and even a fake Tinder profile. She remains one of the many highlights of Skyrim, with more fascinating things about the game and its characters constantly revealed.

Other than Lydia, Skyrim is filled with interesting and often glitching NPCs with whom players can interact. Some NPCs will have fleshed out lore and lives, which is up to the player to learn about, like Narfi. Narfi is a village beggar that players can meet early on in the story, in the village of Ivarstead, with quite a sad story if players are willing to listen.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
