Rotating modifiers add a new element to standard missions, such as limiting revives, introducing more damage through a certain element, or locking down player loadouts. In addition to increased enemy health and shields, players have to square off against Champion level enemies, which has left the community divided. These Destiny 2 enemies are tougher as they require specific mods to be used with specific weapon types in order to be stunned and then defeated. As one player found out, even at a sliver of health, Champions are not to be messed with.

During a Wellspring run, an activity added alongside the Witch Queen expansion, one player showed off how dangerous Champions can be, even when one assumes they’re finished. In a short clip from ohjeezus_ on the Destiny 2 subReddit, the player is using the exotic linear rifle Sleeper Simulant to take down an Unstoppable Ogre. As the player reduces the Hive Ogre’s health to a sliver, the finisher icon appears above the enemy’s head, which the player then triggers.

As the finishing animation starts, the ogre surprisingly breaks out and punches the player and downs them instantly. Based on the clip, it appears the timing of the finisher began just after the Ogre initiated its unstoppable ability, which may have glitched the finisher animation. Either way, the clip has been a big hit with the community, which quickly posted an assortment of funny quips and sayings the ogre might say to the guardian. One user even hilariously compared the clip to the recent slap from Will Smith to Chris Rock at the Oscars.

The inclusion of Champions in more difficult content has been a controversial one for many fans. Each season introduces new modifiers, many of which can deal with one of the three Champion types. Unfortunately, these are tied to specific weapon types, meaning that players are forced to use specific mods and weapons for these encounters, which ultimately clashes with Bungie’s recent push for player freedom in creating builds.

Destiny 2 is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
