In the latest issue of Famitsu, Hideo Kojima and artist Yoji Shinkawa revealed a number of new tidbits about the studio and upcoming game. For the Sony partnership, it just made sense from a familiarity concept. They offered a lot of freedom and believed in the rough concept game idea the team had come up with. While keeping the details closed guarded, Kojima did reveal that fans of modern AAA titles such as The Division or Uncharted 4 will be happy with what the team is putting together. The game is currently in the pre-production phase as the studio brings the plot, characters, and game systems into place before development can begin.
In regards to the studio, it seems things are still in flux a bit. The team is currently in a temporary location, and so far only the logo and webpage are fully completed. Surprisingly, after the Konami fallout, Kojima didn’t end up taking time off due to the fear that it would throw his lifestyle out of wack and that people would be upset with him. To that end, he warned fans that he’ll need about a year to warm back up into game development.
For fans of classic Kojima, he also admitted that the debut logo for the studio is actually part of a larger mystery. The previously revealed image is part of a larger mystery that he is unwilling to reveal just yet but has more to it than people think.
It’s been a whirlwind year for the legendary developer. After leaving Konami, Hideo Kojima essentially took a tour of the gaming industry, meeting with many industry leaders and even some big names in other industries such as J.J. Abrams. While Kojima is currently working on a new AAA action title, many fans hold out hope that the legendary developer will reunite with horror icon Guillermo del Toro to resurrect their Silent Hills ideas in a brand new collaboration.
What kind of game are you hoping Kojima and the team create? Are you looking for a Metal Gear style experience or something completely new? Sound off in the comments below.
