Metroid Dread has burst onto the scene with the best launch month for the Metroid franchise in terms of sales. The sci-fi series has never had quite the popularity of the likes of Super Mario or The Legend of Zelda, but it has had a cult following since it debuted in 1986. The Switch, in general, tends to be a “hit-maker,” and Metroid Dread appears to be drawing up more interest than ever. This is true even to the tune of a boundary-breaking video that shows Metroid Dread in a whole new light.

Twitter user and YouTuber Shesez recently uploaded a brand new video in their Boundary Break web series. In the videos, cameras are used to go “out of bounds” to find secrets throughout a game. While Metroid Dread uses a fixed camera for 2D action, quick time-like moments, and cutscenes, a camera tool that was developed by fellow YouTuber Postposterous which allowed Shesez to look at Metroid Dread from entirely new angles.

The full video shows what enemies look like up close, giving Bosses a whole new look from angles not seen in the past, and it shows hidden EMMIs (which are stored outside of the map until called upon by the code of the game) and a look at the horrifying creatures that make them even more terrifying. The free camera control also shows how Nintendo and MercurySteam rendered environments, as well as fascinating details about how cutscenes work in the game. While the video likely will not help with beating Metroid Dread 100%, it does show hidden secrets, spoilers, and surprises that most will have not yet seen.

The Metroid Dread Boundary Break video is captivating in many ways. Along with being a must-watch for fans of the franchise and Metroid Dread specifically, the video also gives a very intriguing inside look at video game design. With just a new perspective, the video answers questions and gives details about Metroid Dread’s game direction that could have gone unknown for years.

Metroid Dread is available now for Nintendo Switch.
